This guide should help answer many of the more common questions. If you have additional questions, please feel free to discuss with an NFRONT coach.
What is youth sports performance training?
Sports performance training is a relatively new term. It focuses on training a young athlete to be the best that they can be in their chosen sport or for their individual purpose or objective. The training content of NFRONT programs contain the foundations of any good athlete: speed, agility, strength, and self-confidence; but also includes sports-specific content as a separate and additional focus.
How many times can my youth athlete train per week and what is optimal?
NFRONT workouts are limited to 60-minute time slots. The optimal amount of training per week would be 4 to 5 days, but in general, 2 to 3 days (hours) per week is average in order to help the athlete build up to avoid injury and properly grow into more advanced fitness levels of the program.
How many athletes are in a typical training session?
Training session size with NFRONT depends on the event and the number of attendees scheduled for the session, but generally we match 6 to 10 comparable athletes to work together in a session during one-hour timeslots. Athletes of vastly different ability and age ranges are separated during the session so that intensity can be reduced or amplified for each child according to their capability to adapt to the movements.
How long will it take to see results?
Most young athletes who come 2 to 3 times per week and are engaged in the NFRONT training sessions will feel and see immediate results, but you will begin seeing evident effects after a few weeks of consistent activity. Results and success at reaching goals are driven by the commitment of each individual.
Does the program include weight-lifting?
NFRONT youth training programs include some light hand weights and body weight exercises to increase strength in a safe and effective way. Athletes in our advanced speed programs will incorporate some weight lifting into their programs.
How much does it cost to join NFRONT?
NFRONT has many different programs, as a result fees will vary depending on the activity selected. Activity categories include: Group Training, Team Training, Private Training, Park District Classes, Special Events, and NFRONT Track Club.
Group training sessions with NFRONT are purchased in advance based on a monthly calendar. For example, November contains roughly 13 total workouts on TUE/THU/SAT at a cost of $99/athlete. The more training sessions attended per week, the better the value.
Private and team training fees are discussed based on specific arrangement details per client. Park district class fees can be found on the respective webpages for each location.
How does scheduling work?
For group training, we offer a 1-hour group training session once a day in the evenings, four or five days per week with the athlete choosing the number of days attending. Since most youth athletes train 2 to 3 times per week, this schedule provides the maximum flexibility.
Private and team sessions are scheduled based on specific details per individual client. Contact coaches for openings or refer to the calendar on the NFRONT website for all events and other scheduled programs.
How do I register for an NFRONT program?
Complete the registration form, including consent, release, medical history form. Sign and send form to Coach Ken Pendleton at coachp@nfrontspeed.com. Completed form must be on file and payment must be made at time of registration.
What items should be brought when arriving for a training session?
Athletes participating in NFRONT youth training sessions are suggested to wear a pair of shorts and a t-shirt underneath a sweatshirt (jacket) and pants. They will be reminded to bring two layers. Individual water bottles are required and will not be provided by NFRONT. Gym bags or backpacks help contain materials when we walk to our area of the park or track but are more necessary when indoors. Please check the daily weather forecast.
Extra shorts and t-shirts, sweatshirt and pants, and rain gear, water bottle, sunblock, bug spray, and comfortable sports appropriate shoes. Sandals, clogs, or other shoes are okay for leisure time but are not allowed on the track. Please change into running shoes prior to entering the track area.
Please do not feel obligated to purchase expensive new items. NFRONT will have a LIMITED number of items available at each event or training session whenever possible for athletes to use.
What should be expected when arriving for a training session?
Training sessions will begin in the allotted meeting zone, where workout details are briefly discussed between the coaches and athletes (the session’s attendees). Warm-up plans and routes will be marked off and drills will be arranged prior to arrival.
Are these programs only for experienced, competitive players? What programs exist if my child is not an athlete but is just looking to get into shape or are just starting out and have no experience?
If your athlete is looking to get active, lose weight or get in shape, then NFRONT group training is the answer. Many of our youth athletes find the will to improve over time during the training experience and go on to train like an athlete in our advanced training groups. If your child is just looking to get an introduction to athletic activity, then park district calendar might be where to look for a single day commitment with other kids of the same pace.
Each program is tailored to suit both students who are just trying out a new sport as well as seasoned athletes looking to sharpen their skills. Each of our coaches are very good at making sure that athletes learn something new and have some fun at the same time.
My child is below the grade or age range for a program – can I still sign them up?
Due to inherent safety and other concerns associated with comprehension of certain concepts related to advanced fitness activity and equipment, all programs including camps, clinics and other special events may have specific grade and age qualifications; however, every child is different. You can reach out to NFRONT coaches directly for a discussion about whether the child is allowed come into a specific program. Park districts can also be reached for consideration to add a child to a class or program.
What Is the difference between group and private training?
Both group and private training sessions last approximately 1-hour, but group sessions can have as many as 20 athletes working out together in the same setting. Private training will have a single athlete focus, and at times, can have one or two additional athletes working together of similar ability. Private training would be used to focus on event-specific and technical development, while group will have a heavier emphasis on fitness.
How do group training programs work?
The NFRONT group training is program available three days each week during preset hours and locations. Athletes arrive and complete the workout as many times per month that they can make it to the sessions.
How do NFRONT private sessions work?
Private sessions at NFRONT are arranged on a calendar located at CoachUp, a marketplace for coaches and athletes. Packages are purchased and used as times and dates are available. Packages can renew once used up and can be used in combination with other programs.
How do NFRONT park district programs work?
NFRONT park district programs run for 6-week segments and are booked through the respective park district website. Typically, this option is great for children who are newer to track or need to get back into fitness. The 50-minute classes run once or twice per week and spread the dates out to give young athletes a chance to build up stamina over the duration of the class.
How does the NFRONT Track Club work?
The NFRONT Track Club competitive season runs from the final week of May through the first week of August (10-weeks). The team is coed with ages 6 – 18. Registration begins each April.
How do NFRONT camps, clinics, and special events work?
NFRONT camps, clinics and special events are listed on the NFRONT webpage; and are scheduled in advance throughout the Lake County area. Camps can run for a full week straight for an hour every day (5-day camp), or a day or per week two over a longer period (16 sessions over 8 weeks).
